Day 4
Above and beyond
Day 4 began at Ceduna. I was just about to hit the starter button when the phone rang, it was Cliff and Kym from Radio West Bunbury WA for one of their regular on-air catch ups. Its always good to chat with the guys and it certainly gave me a boost to start the day.
Pleasant but eneventful ride past Iron Knob, and that's what it looks like, and on to Port Augusta where I was greeted by Lions President LLoyd Nelson, his wife Lorraine and Peter Lawrence, Ulyssian from Adelaide who had riden all the way up to greet me and then join me for the ride back to Adelaide.
Lloyd shouted lunch then Peter and I hit the road.
There is a fantastic camerarderie between bikers ,especially Ulyssians, and Peter' joining me for this leg of the ride was a prime example. He works in CSI and has seen first hand the ravages of depression inflicted on his work colleagues. When we arrived in Adelaide at the Kilburn Footy Club we were warmly greeted by Lions members representing 3 clubs plus the local Liberal Candidate. At all of these functions, whether formally or informally, we discuss the purpose of the ride and I like to think that those attending will then become my local ambassadors in raising the awareness profile of depression. You know something else which is really starting to come to the surface, that despite all the terrible news we are bombarded with day in and day out, there are still really a lot of good things and good people in the world. Peter was one of them and so are the Lions.
