2011 Highlights Video
Enjoy watching some of the memorable moments of the 2011 Ride thanks to the talented Roger Clark.
Ride wind up
The 2011 Ride to the Red Centre officially ended with a breakfast on Sunday August 28 at the remote Glen Helen Resort 132 kms West of Alice Springs. All of the nearly 300 riders who took part in this year's Ride found their way home safely but unforrtunately our Sydney leader Phil crashed whilst avoiding a car which failed to give way at an intersection in Katherine N.T.
Phil and his beloved Harley were battered and bruised but able to limp to Mt Isa where repairs were undertaken to enable him to eventually continue his journey safely back home.
The 2011 Ride was an outstanding success in achieving its main goals of :
-
Raising awareness of depression.
-
Helping to break down stigma.
-
Fundraising for the Black Dog Institute.
-
Having a lot of fun :)
The Ride received unprecedented exposure from the traditional TV, Radio and Print media plus massive Social Media coverage.Wherever the riders went with their Winston (black dog) mascots they attracted interest, especially at the 41 community events, 35 of which were organised by Lions Clubs from all over the country. We got people talking about depression, this can be the first step to getting help for those who sufferer the illness. We raised $161,665 which will go to helping the Black Dog Institute roll out their Community Education Programs across Australia. During the Ride a great camaraderie developed amomgst the riders and a lot of fun was had along the way.
There are many people to thank for helping to make the event such a success, I take this opportunity to mention them:
-
The State Ride Coordinators, Dave, Paul, Phil, Tony and Boyd.
-
The nearly 300 riders from all over Australia on nearly every bike imaginable.
-
The huge list of Sponsors and Supporters.
-
The wonderful Lions Clubs throughout Australia who supported us.
-
The fantastic team at the Black Dog Institute.
Thank you all and everyone else who donated or contributed in some way to help make the 2011 Ride to the Red Centre a truly memorable and successful event.
